Setup steps

Pay for the plan at usdpr.com/signup. 14-day free trial starts immediately.
Generate your Open Dental keys: open Open Dental → Setup → Advanced Setup → API. Copy the Developer Key and the Customer Key.
Paste both keys into the PMS connector step in our onboarding dashboard.
Click Sync Now. First-run sync pulls your active patients in ~2 minutes for a 5,000-patient practice.
Approve your starter message templates (or edit them — 3 variants per segment, PHI-safe by default).
Click Launch. The first batch of email reactivations goes out the same afternoon.

What syncs automatically

Every 4 hours (Practice Pro) or every 30 minutes (DSO), usdpr. pulls incremental changes from your Open Dental REST API:

patients — new + updated rows
appointments — broken, cancelled, completed statuses
Consent flags — TxtMsgOk (SMS) and EmailOk (email)

Cursor-based sync — only fetches rows with DateTStamp newer than the last run, so even 50,000-patient practices sync in seconds.

What we write back (optional)

When a patient replies and your front desk books them, we can push the appointment to Open Dental's /appointments endpoint as a tentative booking (AptStatus: Scheduled). Your staff confirms and assigns chair + provider from inside Open Dental as usual.

Push-back is opt-in. Default is read-only.

Does this work with Open Dental Cloud?

Yes. Both self-hosted Open Dental and Open Dental Cloud expose the same REST API.

Do I need to be on the latest version?

Version 21.4+ (released late 2022) has the full API surface we use. Earlier versions may have partial compatibility — contact us if you're on 20.x.

How is PHI handled?

Business Associate Agreement signed via HelloSign before any sync runs. Every row we pull is covered by the BAA. See our full security posture.

What if I want to switch from Dentrix to Open Dental?
